A long way is the simple answer to that question, but just how far?
The real truth is that advertising in its own right dates back thousands of years and the Egyptians are known to be the real inventors. Egyptians are famous for many inventions and inventing advertising seems to be another one of their most brilliant ones ever. They had already previously started to use papyrus (first paper) to record many things on. The Egyptians then caught on to advertisement and started to use this papyrus to make sales messages and posters to go onto walls. It was this that kicked everything off with the rest of the world’s future generations.
It is also known that Pompeii, the city destroyed by the terrible forces of nature, actually had used adverts to show off commercial messages. The middle ages also used advertising but because many of the people couldn’t read they invented the image form of advertising so people would know which shop was which.Town criers were also introduced to advertise things such as fruit and vegetable carts.
If you were then to think foward many, many years the invention of the radio came into play and of course with this came the quirky jingle advertisements. Television came next which is around the time marketing agency started to come into play.
Leap foward once more and you will realise the scale of things as advertising is now used in a variety of ways from public transport to schools. It has also comes in many different forms ranging from direct mail to twist banner stand so ways and means continue to evolve and broaden.
What is the future of advertising? With every new piece of technology advertising seems to sneak its way into the world, so be prepared to start seeing it get a lot worse.
